We head into Matchday 28 with an inviting gap between us and the table leaders and look forward to keeping our title hopes alive until we win it or when it’s mathematically impossible, as we host a desperate Vipers side.
The difference in points between us and Vipers is just 5, and a win shall narrow this to only 2 points, giving us a total of 47 points collected as we aim to maximize and end the league strong.
A desperate Vipers side:
The defending double Champions are in desperation having lost their quarter-final game in the Stanbic Uganda Cup to Kitara and consequently being knocked out. They desperately want to at least hold onto the league title and win it for the third consecutive time. However, Vipers, with 49 points on the table, sits second below BUL, who have beaten them home and away to lead them by head-to-head superiority.
This has set the Venoms into further desperation, as even winning all their remaining three games doesn’t guarantee them being declared Champions unless BUL slips up. Nevertheless, they will come full force at MTN Omondi, looking to collect maximum points in an all-1600 hours Matchday 28 kick-off.
Great start to life in UPL:
Mbalangu’s side, on the other hand, has had an abnormal start to life in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League as they come into this game with the dream of a double mathematically possible, with guaranteed Super 8 participation ahead of the 2024/25 season. This has indeed been a great start to life in the UPL for a newly promoted club, and we shall look forward to a great result this evening as we look at collecting as many points as possible this season.
Giant slayer:
MTN Omondi Stadium has been a fortress for us this season and has seen Giants fall, from the Landlord, KCCA in the first round, to Kitara, whose win against us would have propelled them almost to the championship, to BUL, who received a double portion both in the UPL and Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The slaying of giants has set us as a formidable opponent and propelled us into title contention. With a fully fit squad, it remains to be seen who will be named in the matchday squad as we look forward to another important three points later in the afternoon.
