NEC FC is delighted to announce that goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo has signed a new three-year contract, extending his stay with the Diehards until 2029.
The reliable shot-stopper joined NEC FC in June 2024 and has since established himself as a key figure between the posts, consistently delivering commanding performances and playing an important role in the club’s ambitions.
Beyond his goalkeeping abilities, Hannington has demonstrated strong leadership qualities and currently serves as vice-captain of the Diehards. His influence also extends to crucial moments in matches, with the goalkeeper showing composure from the penalty spot and converting spot-kicks for the club when called upon.
Speaking to the club’s media after putting pen to paper on his new deal, Hannington expressed his happiness at extending his stay and his determination to help NEC FC achieve greater success.
“I feel happy extending my stay at NEC FC. Despite the fact that I haven’t been able to achieve silverware for the club, which I believe is something missing, I and my teammates are working towards that.
“To our fans, I appreciate you for standing with us, and I promise you a season full of hard work and achieving many things with us.”
Hannington enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 season, making 23 appearances and playing 2,070 minutes in the Uganda Premier League. He kept 13 clean sheets and scored two goals, a remarkable contribution from the goalkeeper.
His performances earned him the StarTimes Uganda Premier League Golden Glove for the 2025/26 season.
In the Uganda Cup, Hannington added another four clean sheets, taking his total to 16 clean sheets across all competitions during the campaign.
His new 3-year contract is a further statement of NEC FC’s confidence in the goalkeeper and his importance to the club’s ambitions as the Diehards continue to build for the future.
With Hannington remaining between the posts until 2029, NEC FC looks forward to more commanding performances, leadership and memorable moments from the vice-captain as the club targets silverware and greater success in the seasons ahead.
