NEC FC is delighted to announce that defender Gideon Odongo has extended his stay with the Diehards, committing his future to the club until 2029.
Odongo has signed a three-year contract extension, ensuring that the left-back will continue to wear the NEC FC colours as the club builds towards an ambitious future.
The defender joined NEC FC during the FUFA Big League campaign in 2022 and was part of the squad that secured promotion to the Uganda Premier League ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Since making the step up to the top flight, Odongo has established himself as a dependable option at left-back, playing an important role in the club’s progress and continued growth.
His performances also earned him recognition at international level. Odongo received his first senior call-up to the Uganda Cranes in 2024 for preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and regional engagements. He was subsequently named in Uganda’s provisional squad for CHAN 2024, which was played in August 2025 and co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Odongo has also been part of some of the most significant moments in NEC FC’s recent history. He was a member of the squad that saw the Diehards reach the club’s maiden CAF Confederation Cup campaign in 2025, marking another important milestone in the club’s rise.
During the 2025/26 season, Odongo made 18 appearances, accumulating 1,620 minutes of playing time across the campaign.
With his experience, consistency and understanding of the club’s journey, Odongo’s contract extension provides continuity as NEC FC prepares for another chapter of growth and success.
Welcome to another chapter, Gideon. The journey continues.
