We are gearing up to face Busoga United for the third time this season, in a highly anticipated encounter, this time in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16. The upcoming match will be a pivotal moment in determining which team advances to this year’s quarterfinals.
In the initial showdown between the two teams, NEC dominated their second league game, securing a resounding 5-0 victory at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo. Captain Kavuma Marvin led the charge with a brace, supported by goals from Kayanja, Rashid Okocha, and Allan Mugalu.
The second meeting saw Joseph Dhata’s halftime brace challenged by Aggrey Madoi, who scored crucial equalizers each time we took the lead. Nevertheless, Kavuma Marvin, making a notable entrance from the bench, sealed the victory with a stunning free-kick at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
For the upcoming clash, Busoga United has opted for a change of venue, moving from the Njeru Technical Centre to Kakindu Stadium, setting the stage for a thrilling Uganda Cup encounter.
After a recent setback in a league game against KCCA, we are determined to regain our winning momentum against Busoga United. Coach Dudu Bosco emphasized the significance of the match, acknowledging the weight of both the league and the Uganda Cup in our pursuit of silverware this season.
“This is another chance for a trophy this season. Of course, we have the league and the Uganda Cup, with the league carrying more weight. However, the Uganda Cup is equally important, and therefore, we should be capable of winning this game and maintaining the momentum and hope for a trophy this season,” noted Coach Dudu Bosco ahead of the crucial encounter.
Our last Uganda Cup outing saw us secure a convincing 5-1 victory against Acholi United. Joseph Dhata stole the show with a remarkable hat trick, earning himself the match ball, while Kavuma added another goal to double his Uganda Cup tally. Gaddafi Wahad, who joined us in January, opened his goal account in style. Kayanja, among the scorers, in this year’s edition.
As we anticipate this evening’s match, we are eager to see who will further increase their goal tally or join the ranks of the four scorers.
Despite facing a few absentees, Coach Hussein Mbalangu boasts an almost fully fit squad, with only Kiirya Samson and Ssebaggala Enock missing from contention. As the match approaches, all eyes are on Coach Mbalangu as he strategizes and selects the best lineup to navigate this challenging fixture against Busoga United. The game is set to be televised live on FUFA TV, the premier destination for Ugandan sports coverage.
