The StarTimes Uganda Premier League is set to come to an end today with our encounter being the main game as we host SC Villa, the current table leaders.
This highly anticipated encounter is, in every sense, a game where each side is playing for pride. NEC aims to remain unbeaten both home and away in our first-ever season, while SC Villa is striving to win a record 17th championship.
A brilliant start to life in UPL;
We have just fallen short of competing for the trophy in the penultimate games and proudly host the last game with a lot of encouragement from a season-long experience.
Mbalangu’s side has had an extraordinary start to life in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, coming into this game with 48 points already collected and guaranteed Super 8 participation ahead of the 2024/25 season.
This has indeed been a great start to life in the UPL for a newly promoted club, and we look forward to a great result this evening as we aim to collect as many points as possible this season. With the trophy no longer a possibility, the target remains simple: play for the badge and be proud of doing it.
Almost two decades wait;
Having won the trophy 7 consecutive times between 1998 and 2004, setting a record with 16 trophies, the Jogoos have experienced a nearly 20-year drought in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
This long wait has had moments when it seemed like it was about to end, only to be extended. The most recent instance was last season when Villa needed just one win against URA to secure the title, but they lost and their drought continued. With this disappointment still fresh in their minds, the Jogoos find themselves in a similar position as they visit us for the last dance of the season.
