We approach MatchDay 9 with a golden chance to reclaim the league’s summit, provided we secure a victory against our formidable hosts, KCCA with whom we share the stadium. The latter, currently at the top, will be equally determined to consolidate their position and extend their lead.

This clash at MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo under the floodlights promises to be a pivotal battle in the race for the championship, where NEC’s resolve will be tested against KCCA’s home advantage and their own aspirations for glory.

NEC FC: The Diehards’ Ascendancy

NEC FC, popularly known as the Diehards, have made a formidable entrance into their second season in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL), securing five wins from our initial eight matches, with a solitary draw and two unexpected losses. The performance this season echoes the ambition and spirit that saw us clinch an admirable 6th place in their inaugural campaign and echoes a desire for even better.

What has truly marked our rise this season was the audacious 3-1 victory over Vipers in the league opener at the MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo, setting the tone for what has been an extraordinary run. This was followed by a gritty 2-1 win away at Kitara FC’s Royals Park Butema, displaying our ability to grind out results in challenging environments. The capacity to overcome a tough UPDF side further solidified their credentials as serious title challengers.

Despite these triumphs, the journey hasn’t been without its hurdles. An early shock came from Express, where we found themselves two goals down within eight minutes of the kickoff, eventually losing despite managing a consolation goal. The second defeat was equally disappointing, a game lost due to a single critical error in Najjembe, highlighting areas where we need to sharpen our focus.

Offensively, we have been consistently potent, finding the back of the net in six out of the eight games played. This scoring consistency will be crucial as we aim to topple KCCA, who sit just two points ahead of us. As we gear up for tomorrow’s encounter, the intent is clear: to outscore and potentially overtake the current leaders.

KCCA FC’s Season So Far

KCCA FC has been a dominant force this season, sitting comfortably at the top of the league table. Their defensive record is nearly impeccable, having let in just two goals throughout the campaign. However, this invincibility has a caveat; KCCA has yet to taste victory in games where they’ve conceded. Both instances where they allowed goals were against BUL FC, where the match ended in a late equalizer after KCCA had taken the lead, and the other requiring a stunning last-gasp volley from Ashiraf Mugume to secure a draw in Kitende against Vipers SC.

On the offensive front, while KCCA boasts a robust goal tally, their scoring has been somewhat inconsistent. They’ve managed to score more than once in a match only twice, with a 2-0 victory against Kitara and an impressive 5-0 rout over Maroons. This latter match significantly enhanced their goal differential, giving them a substantial edge in the league standings.

As they prepare to face NEC FC, KCCA will be keen on maintaining their stronghold at the summit, aiming to extend their lead with another convincing performance.
