We climbed back to the top of the table with a determined performance against an unbeaten KCCA side. Muzamiru Mutyaba’s 20th-minute goal secured all three points for us at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Match Summary
Head coach Ssalongo Mbalangu made one change to the lineup that drew goalless with Police before the break, bringing in Captain Kavuma Marvin to lead the attack in place of Rwothomio Cromwel.
Early in the match, Mucureezi tested KCCA’s goalkeeper Emojong with a powerful shot following a cross from Odongo Gideo. Shortly after, Mutyaba attempted a shot but Emojong handled it comfortably, following some sharp play from Captain Kavuma.
KCCA nearly took an early lead when Saidi Mayanja’s shot went straight to our keeper, Hannigton Ssebwalunyo.
In the 20th minute, as KCCA pushed forward, Mutyaba intercepted the ball, controlled it, and sent a long pass to Mucureezi. Mucureezi returned a precise low cross to Mutyaba, who controlled the ball, took two steps forward, and shot past Emojong to give us an early lead.
The decision to start Kavuma Marvin paid off as he consistently disrupted the KCCA defense and won crucial aerial duels. Ssebaggala nearly doubled our lead with a shot that missed by inches, and Kavuma had a chance before halftime but was intercepted before he could finish.
We went into halftime with a narrow lead.
Second Half
Mutyaba was substituted after feeling unwell and was replaced by Allan Mugalu. Ajo Emmanuel, following off-field challenges, made his long-awaited debut, replacing Kavuma. Kiyemba also came on for Bayiga.
Jarieko James created danger on the right flank, repeatedly troubling KCCA’s Kizito. After a collision with Emojong, James was substituted for Kawawulo.
Despite the forced changes, Mbalangu’s team held to the game plan. KCCA attempted a comeback, with Sadat Anaku fouled near the box. Usama Arafat’s free-kick went wide, and Anaku failed to connect with Mubezi’s cross, as KCCA’s chances dwindled.
The referee’s final whistle confirmed our 1-0 win.
What it Means
This victory places us at the top of the table with 19 points, one ahead of KCCA after nine games, awaiting results from third-placed Vipers, who face URA.
