In a spectacular tactical masterclass, Coach Mbalangu guided NEC to a commanding victory, securing 19 points after 10 games in their inaugural season of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League 2023/24 season. The match was a redemption tale following a disappointing result on the road, with Mbalangu ensuring his team delivered a positive performance that delighted the record-breaking attendance of passionate fans.

Starting Lineup and Tactical Adjustments:

Mbalangu made strategic changes, opting for two strikers and resting Mugalu Allan. Kayanja returned to the starting eleven to partner Rwothomio upfront. Mubutu and Kimwero formed a formidable midfield duo, with Ssebaggala in an advanced role. Dhata and Okocha added width to the attack. Kiirya captained the side as he continued in the goal now for 10consecutive times, while Asiimwe, Barni, and Acire formed the defensive setup.

First Half Dominance:

The game started with NEC showcasing a strong desire to win, earning a corner in the opening minutes. Cromwel’s brilliant shot was saved, and Ramos Asiimwe’s free-kick tested the goalkeeper. Okocha had two close attempts, both going inches wide.

Dhata in the right place at the right time, intercepted and with a precise shot into the right corner secured the lead before halftime.

In additional minutes, Okocha nearly doubled the lead with a powerful shot, but the goalkeeper’s alert save kept the score at 1-0.

Second-Half Brilliance:

The second half began with a substitution as Acire made way for Kakooza Hood due to injury. Cromwel netted his fourth goal, tapping in Okocha’s precise cross. The Landlord’s instrumental play in creating the goal drew applause from fans.

Coach Mbalangu, demonstrating game management expertise, urged his players to press and maintain defensive solidity, ensuring control for the rest of the match.

Powerful Finish Despite Blackout:

Despite a power blackout, NEC showcased resilience, securing a well-deserved victory and three crucial points.

Player Performances:

Okocha’s exceptional display earned him the Man of the Match award, contributing not only with an assist but also providing the crucial defensive work on the left supporting Barni.

After being first tested in the match against Wakiso Giants, Coach Mbalangu appears to have unearthed the potent partnership in the midfield, a familiar synergy between Kimwero and Mubutu. The diehards, who have shared the pitch in over 20 games out of the 30 Big League matches, have consistently demonstrated a cohesive and effective combination since Mubutu’s debut in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League. The partnership looks even great with Ssebaggala’s cover upfront.

Samson Kiirya’s tally of clean-sheet raises to 6  after securing another against URA.

Ssempa Hamza got off the mark as was handed his debut coming on to replace Rwothomio.

With this victory, NEC moves to the fourth position with 19 points, just six points behind the leader. The next challenge awaits with a short trip to Jinja, facing the table leaders Bul FC on Sunday, December 10, 2023.
