Stanbic Uganda Cup – Round of 32, Bombo Barracks Grounds

We marched into the Round of 16 with a commanding 2-0 victory over UPDF FC this afternoon at Bombo Barracks Grounds in our very first win over UPDF at their backyard. In a disciplined performance wearing our sharp black third kit, the boys controlled the contest from start to finish and booked our place in the next round with plenty to spare.
First Half – Clinical and Controlled
We started brightly, with KB naming Hakim Wandera for his full debut and immediately adding energy and quality down the right. Shamir Kimwero bossed the engine room, while Joseph Dhata stretched the hosts with his pace and direct running as we stomached early pressure, growing confidence and finishing the job in the first half.
The breakthrough arrived on 28 minutes: Kagawa threaded a beautiful ball through the eye of the needle, and Joseph Dhata steered it home with ice-cool composure to give us a 0-1 lead. Gideon Odongo picked up a yellow in the 37th minute, but the backline stayed rock solid.
Just before the break, Dhata was clipped in the box. He dusted himself off, stepped up, and sent the keeper the wrong way for his brace; 0-2 at half-time.
Second Half – Professional Job Done
We continued to dictate the tempo after the restart. Head Coach made tactical changes to keep legs fresh: 57’ – Tonny Atukunda and Pius Obuya introduced for Joseph Seremba and Rashid Kawawa.
Yellow cards for Basangwa (63’) and Dhata (64’) were the only minor blips in an otherwise flawless second half. Dhata went close again on 74’ with a dangerous effort from the right that just sailed wide. Atukunda tested the keeper from distance on 82’.
In 85’ – Innocent Media and Marvin Kavuma came on for Richard Basangwa and Ssenoga Kagawa and lastly, 88’ – Emmanuel Kulanga replaced the tireless Joseph Dhata. Five minutes of added time passed without alarm as we cruised to the final whistle.
