Kavuma Marvin’s decisive first touch in the 70th minute secured a valuable three points for us in a challenging face-off at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru, propelling us to the 6th position on the league standings.
A thrilling encounter showcased a captivating display of football, ending 2-2 at halftime after Joseph Dhata’s brace was countered by Madoi’s set-piece brilliance.
Taking an Early Lead:
The game kicked off with an early lead for NEC, orchestrated by Joseph Dhata. Okocha’s intricate play set up Cromwel, who, in turn, found Kayanja. With remarkable calmness and composure, Dhata unleashed a fierce shot into the net, providing a promising start for our team. This goal exemplified the well-coached teamwork that characterized our performance on an eventful evening.
Level at Halftime:
Despite taking the lead, the first half concluded with a 2-2 scoreline, with both sides exchanging blows. Benjamin Ochan’s challenge in the box led to a penalty, converted skilfully by Madoi, canceling out Dhata’s earlier goal. NEC, however, regained the lead as Kimwero’s assist set up Dhata for his second. Madoi struck again from a corner, ensuring the teams entered halftime on level terms.
Composure in the Second Half:
The second half saw NEC demonstrating effective game management, balancing defense and attack. The team exhibited a cohesive performance, minimizing defensive errors while applying pressure in the attacking third. The offensive strategy created opportunities, including a free kick expertly taken by Okocha, only to be denied by a brilliant save from Michael Lutaaya.
The persistence paid off as another free kick became the turning point for NEC. Kavuma Marvin, a substitute for Rwothomio, made an immediate impact. His first touch, a skilfully curled free-kick, beat Lutaaya with precision. The excitement and excellence of the moment were vividly captured by commentator Peter Otai, describing Kavuma’s goal as a “finish of specialty and accuracy.”
Despite several chances later in the game, we couldn’t add to the score line. Nevertheless, the team left Njeru with a well-deserved victory, showcasing spirited performance and resilience and a Man of the Match accolade to Joseph Dhata’s name.
What It Means:
The three points earned in Njeru elevated us to the 6th position on the league table, accumulating 27 points, just one point below Maroons FC. The win not only solidified our position in the mid-table but also highlighted the team’s capability to overcome tough challenges.
